Health and Safety Manager

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage the HSE Business Support team and HSE Advisory Property Services team, articulating a clear vision, providing direction, and fostering a culture of accountability, high performance, and continuous improvement.
  • Take ownership of people-related HSE matters and collaborate with relevant support teams.
  • Lead leaders and colleagues to embrace the ‘Everyone, Safe and Well’ vision, strategy, and safety management system.
  • Provide specialist advice, guidance, and support to all areas of the business (Customer, Development, and Enabling Functions).
  • Coach and guide SNG managers in developing their safety leadership knowledge, skills, and application.
  • Actively participate in decision-making for the annual HSE plan to drive continuous improvement and track actions.
  • Represent the HSE team in wider stakeholder leadership meetings and working groups, promoting agreed objectives and providing technical knowledge, critical feedback, and guidance for inter-departmental collaboration.
  • Proactively promote the ‘Everyone Safe and Well’ vision and principles, guiding by example to create a positive environment where health, safety, and wellbeing are integral values.

Skills and Expertise

  • Demonstrable experience as a Health and Safety Manager with relevant qualifications (e.g., NEBOSH Level 6, equivalent Environmental Certificate).
  • Demonstrable experience leading a team of HSE professionals.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the proven ability to verbalise ideas and build strong stakeholder relationships.
  • Experience in designing, reviewing HSE policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Ability to engage with multiple stakeholders, building positive and trusted relationships.
  • Strong prioritisation skills, and ability to work accurately and pay attention to detail.
