Consultant Psychiatrist – Male PICU

Key Responsibilities

  • Consultant responsibility for Coral Ward, a 12-bed male Psychiatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) at Highgate Mental Health Centre.
  • Clinical lead for the team, ensuring high-quality, patient-centered care.
  • Overall clinical leadership for the Coral Ward multidisciplinary team.
  • Working with the ward manager to establish and maintain clinical governance systems for safe and effective care.
  • Integral role in team performance, development of clinical pathways, and acute service division priorities.
  • Flexible patient seeing throughout the week, minimum once per week.

Skills and Expertise

  • Extensive experience in delivering high-quality psychiatric care.
  • Strong leadership and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of clinical governance systems and procedures.
  • Expertise in patient assessment, diagnosis, and treatment.
  • Proactive anticipation and resolution of impediments to patient discharge.
  • Knowledge of the MHA.
  • Experience with patients with functional rather than organic illness.
  • Liaison expertise with inpatient Old Age Psychiatrists (if applicable).
