MIG Welder – West Midlands
Key Responsibilities
- Fit, join, fabricate, and repair metal and other weldable material using appropriate welding techniques.
- Perform welding duties using a wire welder.
- Weld steel components according to layouts, engineering drawings, work orders, or verbal instructions.
- Set-up, lay out work using jigs/fixtures or hand layout to fabricate parts and/or rework finished products.
- Assist fitters or welders in the fabrication or welding of multi-component parts.
- Operate forklifts, hoists, hand power tools, slings, grinders, cutting torches, and other related hand tools.
- Inspect and correct welds to meet product specifications.
- Read, understand, and follow job order specifications, engineering drawings, and/or work orders.
- Cross-train and perform other job tasks in addition to the primary role.
- Inspect equipment and report any needed repairs to the supervisor.
- Perform a variety of complicated tasks as required.
Skills and Expertise
- Familiarity with welding concepts, practices, and procedures.
- Ability to understand welding symbols and diagrams, and read engineering drawings.
- Thorough knowledge of welding equipment (torches, tips, filler rods, flux, hoses, valves, gas cylinders).
- Tape measurement and engineering drawing reading skills.
- MIG & Stick welding experience preferred.
- Heavy manufacturing experience preferred.
