Teaching Vacancies
We are looking to appoint a dynamic, enthusiastic and inspirational teacher to join our English department.
This is a fantastic opportunity for a teacher who really wants to make a difference to the lives of young people. Our single goal is ‘Students First’ and you will be joining a strong team of professionals working to this sole aim.
What the school offers its staff
The English department
Our English department is a friendly, supportive and high performing team. The department includes a combination of experienced and more recently-qualified staff. The department is a great place to start your career as a teacher as well as somewhere where more experienced staff can thrive.
The department is extremely well resourced. Every classroom has a visualiser and these are used extensively by the team in frequent and highly effective episodes of guided practice to develop strong procedural knowledge and confidence for independent and deliberate practice. There is a substantial departmental office and a very large and well-stocked library with an experienced and enthusiastic librarian.
The department has created a challenging and exciting KS3 curriculum with reading at its heart. The department introduces students to a range of engaging recently-published writing as well as more canonical texts.
There is a strong whole-school literacy strategy which aims to ensure that all students can gain the educational and personal benefits of reading. This includes reading in form time through our personal development reading provision, Accelerated Reader and a variety of reading interventions for readers who are not yet proficient. The specialist literacy teaching assistant uses the Ruth Miskin phonics programme to support emergent readers. Furthermore, there is a comprehensive oracy strategy that is fully embedded in the academy and this is supporting writing confidence and competence, as well as arming students with exceptional speaking and listening skills. Fundamentally, we believe that oracy is the gateway to socio-economic mobility.
As in all OGAT secondary academies, the department prepares students for Eduqas GCSE English Language and English Literature qualifications. The programme of study is fully resourced with high-quality materials produced by staff across the trust who know this specification well. We aim to make all our teachers ‘experts’ in preparing students for GCSE examinations, using our thorough and systematic methods devised over many years. We have the benefit of support from the trust’s team of expert English directors, who provide support, materials, advice, coaching and who model and team-teach in lessons alongside us to develop our expertise.
