Key Responsibilities

  • Full Inspection of safety-critical materials and products to specification or other set criteria.
  • Decision making against specification to ensure no unsafe / non-compliant products are released from the facility.
  • Reporting of quality defects through the designated systems, ensuring they are sufficiently identified and recorded.
  • Perform quality investigations to identify point of cause of a defect, and reporting to Quality/Production to enable rework / containment.
  • Monitor compliance to meet internal control procedures and take appropriate corrective action.
  • Full Adherence to safe systems and controls within your area of responsibility.
  • Accept personal responsibility to take care of ourselves and any others affected by one’s own acts or omissions.
  • Take reasonable care to avoid acts or omissions that may have an environmental impact.
  • Reporting of any EHS concerns/events via relevant system.
  • Understand, implement and comply with the Siemens Rail Systems HSQE policies.
  • Support as required, support goods-in inspection and validation of new materials.
  • Actively encourage/support/participate in the identification and implementation of continuous improvement activities.
  • Support As required, support containment activities off-site in a professional and effective manner.
  • Support achievement of customer satisfaction with regards to additional inspection and documentation requirements.
  • Demonstrate commercial awareness when dealing with defective materials with regards to costs of non-conformance, including replenishment or rework, logistics, and inspection.
  • Engage and support all personnel as required to undertake duties effectively, building positive relationships with colleagues.
  • Suggest learning and development opportunities to develop talent and enhance capability in the team.

Skills and Expertise

  • Previous experience in an inspection role.
  • Previous experience in decision-making within a safety-critical environment.
  • Technical background in a mechanical / engineering environment.
  • Attention to detail, thoroughness, and precise reporting.
  • Competent with measurement equipment (callipers, micrometers, gauges).
  • Good knowledge of IT systems/software/Microsoft Office (ability to use digital reporting systems/interfaces).
  • Good communication skills both written and oral.
  • Able to remain professional in challenging situations and put quality first in all scenarios.
  • Good organisation/planning skills, self-motivated.
