Practice Nurse

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in and perform routine tasks related to patient care as directed by senior staff and GPs
  • Cytology
  • Wound care / ulcer care/Doppler
  • Removal of Sutures and clips
  • New Patient Medicals/Urinalysis
  • ECGs
  • Venepuncture
  • Asthma, COPD, Diabetes (trained to manage at least one chronic condition)
  • Routine immunisations/Childhood immunisations and managing recall systems
  • Requesting pathology tests, for example urine culture, swabs
  • Coronary Heart Disease management with referral to GPs as appropriate
  • Following agreed clinical protocols with referral to GPs as appropriate
  • Administer Injections like B12, Depo, Nebido, Clexane, Zoladex, Pneumonia, Shingles & Flu
  • As Infection Control Lead, carry out audits monthly and annual
  • Check GP and Nurses rooms, stocking and rotating items as required
  • Maintain general tidiness and cleanliness of nurses and treatment rooms
  • Ordering of Health Promotion Literature
  • Ordering of vaccinations to maintain stock levels
  • Checking emergency equipment and fridge temp
  • Responsible for Drug Box, First aid box and oxygen
  • Participation in administrative systems in the Practice
  • Maintain accurate records
  • Advise senior staff of potential problems or errors within the range of assigned tasks
  • Attend and participate in any Practice meetings when required
  • Undertake home visits on occasion
  • Attend any training as required and participate in Nurse Meetings, clinical meetings, Practice Meeting
  • Any other delegated duties appropriate to the post
  • Supervise any junior/new member of the team
  • Feedback to team following training/updates
