Arboricultural Officer
Key Responsibilities
- Provide a customer-focused borough-wide arboricultural service.
- Develop contract arrangements, monitoring, and work scheduling for Highways, Housing, Parks, and others.
- Ensure service success through contract monitoring and administration.
- Develop strategy, manage performance, ensure quality assurance, and manage budgets effectively.
Skills and Expertise
- Relevant arboricultural qualification (minimum Level 4 or equivalent).
- In-depth experience in an appropriate field (can substitute for formal qualifications).
- Knowledge of contract specification, letting, monitoring, and associated processes.
- Understanding of trees in an urban environment.
- Knowledge of surveying, work identification, pricing, and scheduling.
- Understanding of relevant legislation, standards, and professional guidelines.
- Knowledge of health and safety practices and procedures in arboricultural services.
- Understanding of financial and administrative information systems.
- Experience managing and coordinating arboricultural contracts.
- Management of contracts with a minimum annual value of 1 million.
- Delivering contracts with contractors and customers.
- Financial management (budget preparation and monitoring).
- Computer skills (spreadsheets, databases, word processing, contract monitoring/reporting software like ‘Confirm’).
- Complex report preparation.
- Organize, plan, and prioritize workloads effectively.
- Be flexible and responsive to service needs.
- Work independently and as part of a team.
- Define problems and produce innovative solutions.
- Communicate effectively (written and verbal) with various stakeholders (members, senior officers, community representatives).
- Negotiate when interests conflict.
- Represent the unit within the Council and externally.
