Key Responsibilities
- Support Named Key Workers/Team Leaders and complete tasks promptly, including assistance with forms, bank accounts, registrations (Refugee council/Red Cross, bus pass, college bursary), and checklists.
- Promote service user independence and life skills through physical and emotional support.
- Support service users in accessing health, education, training, and legal services.
- Maintain home cleanliness and order, encouraging service users to participate in upkeep.
- Conduct regular health and safety checks and report repairs/maintenance.
- Support service users with attending college/appointments.
- Assist in petty cash management, adhering to policies and procedures.
- Assist service users with budgeting.
- Provide ad hoc support (e.g., homework, English practice, emotional support).
- Liaise with Key Workers.
- Write reports/email briefs (e.g., after social worker visits, medical appointments, safeguarding concerns).
- Conduct regular welfare checks and encourage participation in activities.
- Carry out risk assessments as needed.
- Log all incidents during shifts, use online systems, and complete thorough handovers.
- Work closely with Local Authorities, Social Workers, and other professionals.
Skills and Expertise
- Experience with unaccompanied asylum-seeking children.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build strong relationships with young people.
- Experience in supporting young people with independence skills and education.
- Knowledge of safeguarding procedures.
- Multi-lingual skills are a plus.
